Each Newton item, assembly, or kit is identified in catalog information
by a ten-character Ordering Number. Use of the full ten-character
Ordering Number, along with the item's description, is preferred
when ordering.
The ten characters of the Newton catalog numbering system are defined
below (NNNNNNDDXX is used for descriptive purposes only).
|
NNNNNN = Figure Number
|
DD = Dash Number
|
XX = Finish Code
|
Figure Number: a six-character abbreviation of the full
ten-character Ordering Number: used for indexing in printed or electronic
documentation; may include a Dash Number(s), which defines a variation
within the Figure Number (refer to Dash Number description below).
Dash Number (ninth and tenth characters):
defines that no finish is applicable, that the item has a Plated
or Painted finish, or the item is thermoplastic. The Finish Code
may be numeric, alphabetic, or alphanumeric. Refer to the Finish
Code listing below for commonly used Finish Codes for metal items;
Finish Codes used for thermoplastic Fiber Cable Management items
are separately defined.
Ordering: When ordering by Newton's ten-character
Ordering Number, provision for defining the Finish Code is automatically
included. Where the Finish Code can be user-specified, characters
nine and ten of the Ordering Number are shown in catalog information
as XX, allowing the user to replace XX (characters nine and ten)
with the desired Finish Code. The desired Finish Code may also be
defined in writing by the customer order. Items that include a predefined
Finish Code (other than XX) are available with only that predefined
finish. If the Ordering Number contains XX as the ninth and tenth
characters and the purchase order does not specify a finish within
the Ordering Number or in writing, Newton's Standard Finish Code
for that item will be provided.
All of the parts included in an item's stock list (or equivalent)
are included with the item / assembly / kit Ordering Number. Where
the Finish Code for an item is defined within the stock list, that
item is provided with the defined finish.
Finish Code: The following are the most commonly used Finish
Codes (for metal); others are available on request and might have additional charges.
